Happy Birthday, Baby Zane!

We still call Zane "Baby Zane" around here. Even though he has always been bigger than Sam! (I was thinking of sending Sam's old belts to Zane, but realized that Zane probably doesn't need belts to keep his pants up and, even if he did, they would be too small!)

Zane is a year younger than Sam and they haven't seen each other in almost a year! I feel so sad about this.

Anyway, we all wish Zane the happiest of birthdays!

Zane, your present will be a little late. Our whole family has helped in making your present and we hope you will love it!

Love, Sam, Aunt BE and Uncle Keith

More Garden After Dark pics

Sand Painter. See Sam and Jack sitting on the other side.
Story quilt. Sam chose a square on the quilt and the storyteller told the story that went with the square. We'll have to try that with Elisa's quilt.

Garden After Dark at Red Butte Gardens

Sam, Eli, Jack and Maia all met at Red Butte for the Garden After Dark event. There were stories told all over the garden and many kids dressed up in their costumes. Sam seems dead set against putting on his costume, although he talks about it a lot.

30 Week Update

We saw a new perinatologist today. It not only looks good in the cervical department, my cervix received its best measurement so far! I have a polyp that has been confounding all the doctors and creating very inconsistent measurements. The doc today confirmed that it was a polyp by checking for blood flow. Anyway, this means that I am doing well, but because they still cannot predict the cause of the preterm labor, I will have one more ultrasound, continue with the progesterone shots, and continue with light exercise. 10 weeks to go!

Jimmy Visits!

Body Worlds!

Jimmy visited last weekend and we took Sam and Jimmy to the Body Worlds exhibit. It was really amazing - we all loved it, Sam especially. When we were on our way home we were asking Sam what he wanted to research more at the library and he said, "I want to get to get a book on my intesticles. They are in my shoulder and connected to my lungs." So, we have to do some more research, but he was great at the exhibit. He had SO MANY questions.

Jimmy helped us harvest the pumpkins before the snow came.

Autumn Evening

Well, we had to postpone the Harvest Festival until next Saturday because snow and rain are expected tomorrow. I am disappointed because Jimmy is flying in tonight and I thought he would have had a great time. This weather meant that all garden food has to be collected quickly and Keith and I each made a run out to the yard this evening to grab some fruit. We just filled up our shirts and pockets- not a real big effort. Tomorrow we will go out with buckets to really bring in the big haul. We'll also cut the pumpkins off the vine tomorrow. I can't wait for that!

It is so warm and cozy in here! Too bad I burned dinner.

Sam and Keith crash in the bean bag.
I've been forcing these paperwhites. Sam loves to watch the roots grow down and the leaves grow up!
First fire of the season!!
Last minute fruit grab! Since the first freeze of the season will be tonight/tomorrow, we ran around the yard collecting grapes off the vines, sweet plums and Asian pears. Jimmy arrives tonight, so tomorrow I think we'll be making a pear tart!

29 Week Update

This week everything looks stable. The perinatologist said today that I'll probably have 2-3 more ultrasounds (through 32 weeks) and then my OB will take it from there. I'm still getting progesterone injections and had the steroids.

He said, at this point, there is not a whole lot they can do to stop labor. The monitoring now is just 1)to make sure that I got the steroids in time; 2) to make sure that I don't open up and drop the baby on the floor; 3) to make sure that if I am going into labor early that the baby's head is down. If the kid's head is not down (which is more likely the earlier one is in the pregnancy) and I am suddenly in labor early, there may not be time to deal with it naturally and I would probably have a C-section. Obviously, I want to avoid that.

Sam's History of Windmills

“Before they had windmills, they had air pressure-detizers. There was a long tube hooked to houses and the heaters. And there was another air pressure-detizer and went around and around the air slowly sentitied out (What does that mean, Sam?) It means cold air is turning into hot air. And then the cool air turned into hot air. And THEN the cold air condenses into the hot air and the hot air condenses into gas! (Arms out laughinig!!!) And then the gas air turns back into new air! Isn’t that funny?? And the other air turns into liquid! And then the liquid mixes with the gas for the fireplace. And then the gas air plops on the floor. (Laughing). And then we have to clean it up with the drill. Hahahahahahhahahahhaha. My goodness, that was a long story!”

Local Milk in Glass Bottles!

We've been getting milk and eggs delivered from a local dairy since we moved here, but they have been using plastic reuseable/deposit bottles. They recently offered the choice of glass bottles and we are so excited! This is our weekly 2.5 gallon delivery of milk. It is delivered to a cooler on our front step at around 4am.

I've made about 150 pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for the Harvest Festival. These will be enjoyed with 5 gallons of apple cider during storytime around the fire.

Lanterns and Hay

Keith is making holes in the rings for the mason jar lanterns for the Harvest Festival. We made 50 lanterns!

Carl and Elisa brought over the straw for the big event.
Sam helped Carl carry the bales to the back.
The straw will be used for seating during the telling of the origin of jack o'lanterns. Keith is telling that story!!
