Little Snow Caves

We Left a Trace

We left an ephemeral trace in the Uintas.

Snow Caves in the Uintas!

My Birthday in the Uintas

We were trying to get to the NOEC yurt, but we took the wrong path. It's hard in the snow t because trails get covered up and markers change. We were going in the right direction, but added about 1/2 mile to the trip which was too much for the kids (or us carrying kids). We decided just to stop and play in the snow after about 2 hours of hiking and had a great day!
Sam just kept plowing ahead. It was awesome.
It was really hot and I stripped down to a tank top.
Digging snow caves.

Getting an Edge on Robots

He hasn't started yet, but Sam cannot wait to start working on real robots. The FIRST club is a robotics club that works with kids K-12. Sam is hoping to start next year at Weilenmann. WSD participated in this statewide FIRST competition.

Getting Ready for Spring

In February, we planted our seeds and set them up with a light in the basement. They are now really growing and have a bunch of tomatoes and peppers to plant in May.

Happy To Be a Skiing Family!!

The Making of Charlie's Birthday 2nd Birthday Cake

Thank goodness Uncle Jimmy arrived. I baked the cake, Jimmy had the overall design and then we filled in the details when we decided to use this gigantic cake board.  Did I post this already?

It was a pretty huge mess.
Note ganache-covered dirt pile.

Charlie Shoveling at Aspen House

Kid snow shovels are the best winter toy in the world. He did this for a very long time.

Nordic Skiing

On the day of Sam's first ski lesson of the season, we took Charlie for a little cross-country trip on our "new" Nordic skis. (NOEC has permanently loaned us two pairs of Nordic skis.) As you can see, Charlie enjoyed the trip.

Hoar Frost

We don't get hoar frost in the valley often. This is in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Sam's Ski School at Brighton

You can see Natalie in line, turning around. She is an assistant instructor at Brighton and Keith's 16 year old cousin.
Very first moment of class of first class. They sent them up the moving carpet to see evaluate them before the chair lift.
This is Sam's class meeting afterwards.

Sam's First Ski Lesson of 2011

I caught them just as they were finishing.  He is right behind the teacher in the green jacket.
