Florida Boy

This morning we rode my bike to the park and it just so happened that the Waldorf 2nd and 3rd graders were there celebrating Halloween. Many of them know Sam, so they were taking turns pushing him on the swing. They would say, “One, two, three, GO!” and push him. After that happened a few times, Sam said, “One, two, three, GO GATORS!” The other kids thought this was hilarious and made him keep doing it. I guess we need to buy into the Florida College pre-paid before we leave Florida !

Nona Does it Again

For a quick visit to West Palm, Nona took Sam to see TWO fountains, a fountain show, a real train in person (with whistles and crossing lights and all!), and a visit to her school! Wow! Thanks, Nona!

Welcome to Crazyland

I really don't have time for this, but every night, before I go to sleep, I've been working on my little Gnome Family. When I showed them to my friend Bill, he said, "Wow. If you ever go crazy, you'll be set. You've got your crazy hobby all ready for when you lose your mind."

Dangers of Anthropomorphosis

Like all parents, we had good intentions. We named our Roomba (robotic vacuum) Lola so that he would not be scared of it when she roamed around the house by herself. As soon as Lola had a name, Sam took an interest in her. He would check to make her light was blinking and let me know if it was red or green. The sensors that keep Lola in a specified area were called her "children" so that he would leave them with Lola and not end up in the playroom or other obscure place. It was a little weird, but people are talking about robots marrying, so why can't Sam have an obsession with a vacuum?

Well, now that we are in full swing of the move towards our manifest destiny, each night after 8:00, Keith and I hurriedly pack room by room. Last night we had to move Lola. When we did it, I said to Keith, "Sam is going to notice that Lola is not plugged in as soon as he wakes up." And, like all mothers everywhere, I was right.

Sam and I got up to take Keith to work (I sold my car already) and as we walked straight from the bed to the car, Sam started yelling over my shoulder, "Lola, Lola, LLLLOOOOOLLLLLAAA!!!!" Once we were in the car he cried, "Pkulibim Lola, pkulibim Lola, pkulibim Lola!" When we finally figured out that he was saying "Plug in Lola" we laughed a little too hard as we explained, "Mommy and Daddy had to unplug Lola because we are moving to Utah. When we plug her in again she will be in Utah and clean our house there."

He would not accept it. He was in complete denial.

I know that I am supposed to set limits, and I do, but in this circumstance it didn't really seem to hurt anything to let this go a little further.

When we arrived home, Sam ran straight to Lola and picked up the plug. He petted Lola and talked to her "babies". He handed me the plug and we plugged her in again. She is now regaining her strength and has a healthy green glow. Sam put her babies so that they are touching her and by this afternoon, we will let her get up from her little rest and clean this very dirty house.

Pumpkin Painting

Sam is a "one color at a time" kind of painter.

Lily took the hand painting approach.
