Holladay Community Garden

There is a wretched empty lot that was approved to be a community garden in Holladay about a year ago. There are 19 participants and we can walk to the garden. We are making an eyesore something special in the community. With Kathy, we have two 40x4' plots.

Sam helped turn the soil and we all just pitched in wherever we were needed. After awhile plots were assigned. I couldn't believe how excited I got!

Lots of activity.
Sam wanted to plant his ball to see what it might become. He thought maybe it would make baby balls. Ahem.
Sam was tired and slept in hte wagon.
Kathy standing next to our plot. We turned it into an egg in the middle with 4 "legs" coming out.

Pumpkin Protein Muffins

I'm inventing new recipes and these are Sam's new favorite snacks. I also bought a ton of organic canned pumpkin after Thanksgiving. So we are eating a lot of Pumpkin Protein Muffins.

Gorgeous New Yarn

I found a new yarn store in Salt Lake - one that will take you through the process of carding raw wool to spinning and painting or dyeing your own yarn. They have all the needle felting stuff I am getting into and I found this Donegal Tweed yarn there. It's hard to tell in the picture, but it is Spring Green. Looking at it makes me happy.

Felting a Bear Finger Puppet (or turd - your choice)

Sam is always trying to make animals out of leaves, wool, cookie dough, whatever. So, Sam and I learning about wet-felting. We did some in the Sarasota Waldorf School, but there are so many possibilities with this.

Anyway, this thing on the end of the whisk that looks like the Turd character from South Park will eventually be a bear finger puppet.

New Obsessions

I haven't posted pictures of the all characters I have made for Sam and the stories we tell, but I am newly obsessed with the Elsa Beskow books. Sam LOVES them and I can't get enough. I have checked out all the library has to offer and I am now making all the characters for Pelle's New Suit. I have even splurged to buy this book because I am going to be telling this story with our characters in our Waldorf playgroup.

I have a lot work to do - two grandmothers, Pelle, sheep, cow, already have chickens, tailor, painter, garden, mother, baby sister. Yesterday Sam and I made some homemade felt and then we made the grandmothers' dresses from it. We made the garden, the heads for all the characters and Sam made a satchel of wool.

Twas the Beginning of Spring

Twas the beginning of spring
And all through the yard
Were little green leaves
Pushing up through the soil.

We unboxed the shorts and tshirts for all
We hung up the hammock
And reconstructed the porch table.

We found a good branch for the bird feeder, which
Had been there less than thirty minutes
When small reddish birds were picking a the seeds
And Sam and I sat watching on our knees.

Sam dug up some dirt
For the crocuses' health
And sprinkled it gently back on the earth.

BE and Sam happy in the yard.

Sam and Keith and checking out the bird feeder.
Sam digs up some dirt to take across the yard to the crocuses.

The food was amazing, of course. I only regret not getting pictures of the chocolate fondu to go with the tarts!!

Sam's Basket

Sam was extremely excited about fruit smoosh and Clif Bars.

He was more excited about the bird feeder the NEXT day.
This is BE finding a small blooming purple flower. Finca. (As a side note, I also found violets blooming in our yard today.) Every bit of bloom makes me go nuts.
