Christmas Cookie Missive

A few years ago we started what we hoped to be a tradition, but it is a very big job. Instead of writing a letter to Santa, we decided that our letter would BE the cookies. This is a lot of cookies. 76 big letter cookies to be exact. We trimmed about 20 letters off the note by substituting an actual reindeer cookie for the word, etc.

See the last cookie letter we did
HERE

It is so much work that I decided that we would make the cookies ahead and freeze them and then we can decorate on Christmas Eve.
What does our letter say? Wait and see!

Snowy Cookie Day

It was the perfect snowy, Christmas-y day to stay inside and make cookies (for FIVE HOURS). It started in the morning and was probably around 10am when this picture was taken. We made cookies at Aunt Pam's house and Emily was head chef.

Tools of the Season

We have about 150 cookie cutters for every season and this year Aunt Rae Rae added dinosaurs. Cutting out cookies is really a once a year activity for me since it is so much work compared to other baking. So, we are working on the Christmas Cookie Missive with Emily on this day and we added Christmas Dinosaurs!

Moon At Perigree

We had been planning for a few weeks to take Sam out to see the full moon on Friday night. He loves to "see the dark" and now that it is dark so early, it is easy to do. We went to dinner and then to Sugarhouse Park and Sam had a great time playing on the playground. My pictures of the moon aren't very good, it was bloody freezing and I kept shaking while taking pictures (I can't fit into appropriate winter clothes).

From the SLC Trib:
The biggest full moon the Earth has seen since 1993 is hanging above Salt Lake City tonight. A clear sky has made it easy to check out the glowing satellite as it travels across a backdrop of stars.

Tonight, the moon is at perigee, its closest distance to the Earth during its orbit around our world. Because it is so close to the Earth, the moon appears larger.

The moon's average distance from the Earth is about 238,855 miles (384,400 km). Tonight it is just 221,560 miles (356,567 km) away.

It will be 14 percent bigger in the sky and 30 percent brighter than some other full moons during the year, according to NASA.

The moon's proximity to Earth also will affect tides, pulling the tide higher than normal between

an inch and six inches.

Every month, the oblong lunar orbit brings the moon closer to Earth, but this year the moon is full just four hours after hitting perigee. That means it will be 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than any other full moon this year. The full moon at perigee won't occur again until 2016.

Airplane In the Snow

Airplane

Sam's Airplane Game has become quite a pastime at our house. It goes on for hours because his airplane (usually his bed) is usually broken and he has to spend a lot of time fixing it. Fortunately, his imaginary friends (Banjo, Tronjo, Dendy, and Henry) help him with all kinds of tool inventions and new ideas. This game has been all-consuming to the point that Sam often did not want to go outside - he wanted to play Airplane. So, we decided to build an airplane in the apple orchard and here are the pictures of when it was built. A video is uploading (why does this take an hour to upload?) for you to see later.
